Bacardi Buying Guide

Last Updated on December 16, 2023 by Lydia Martin

Bacardi Limited is the largest privately-owned spirits company worldwide, boasting over 200 brands today. In fact, the Bacardi facility in Puerto Rico is the largest rum distillery to date. The company was first a producer of rums exclusively but has now evolved to making scotch, gin, vodka, and other liquor products.

We’ll discuss the prices in detail here.

Bacardi – A Brief Background

The name Bacardí came from founder Don Facundo Bacardí Massó, a Spanish wines merchant. He and his family moved to Santiago de Cuba when he was 16.

He worked at a small rum distillery that made “rough” rum with a whopping 85 percent ABV and became interested in concocting a smoother spiced rum that the masses could better enjoy.

Bacardi

He wed Amalia Moreau, a wealthy socialite who helped in funding the distillery he worked at.

He worked for years to perfect his rum and revolutionized the rum-making process. By 1868, this new and improved rum was sold all over the island.

Amalia was also behind the bat logo in every Bacardi bottle. She noticed a colony of fruit bats hanging in the rafters and knew that they symbolized good health, family unity, and good fortune.

Soon after, locals began calling the Bacardi rums el Ron del Murcielago, which translates to “the rum of the bat.”

How It’s Made

Bacardi rums are made from distilled sugarcane. This liquor contains sweet sugarcane and is infused with caramel, vanilla, molasses, and nutmeg.

Rum is aged in charred oak barrels for a smokey flavor and comes in many forms depending on how long it’s aged.

There is the superior white or clear, pale, dark, black, navy, and premium aged.

Unlike other liquors, rum prices are extremely affordable. You can get a bottle of Bacardi at roughly $12 in cost — yet it’s great in quality.

Its Ready to Drink Rum Punch in cans is also available in stores at about $3, the perfect drink for an outdoor picnic.

Popular Bacardi-based Cocktails

Jennings S. Cox from the USA invented the daiquiri on a whim when he whipped up Bacardi rum, lime juice, ice shavings, and sugar and served this refreshment to his crew.

In Havana in 1900, United States soldiers created the first-ever Cuba libre by mixing Bacardi Gold and coke to celebrate the end of the Spanish-American War.

These chance concoctions led to a rise in world cocktail making and mixed drinks.

Fresh, quality ingredients are key to create delicious cocktails. [1] Thankfully, Bacardi brands are not steep in price, and it won’t require plenty of other ingredients to whip up excellent cocktails.

Classic Daiquiri

Classic Daiquiri

Ernest Hemingway’s favorite, the classic cocktail, is easy and fresh with simple ingredients you will probably find in your own pantry.

You also won’t need any kitchen tools to create this mixed drink.

Ingredients:

  • 1 ½ ounces light rum; we recommend the Bacardi Superior
  • ¾ ounce lime juice
  • ½ to ¾ ounce simple syrup, adjust this according to your taste

Directions:

Just add the ingredients together in a glass and stir well. You can then adjust the flavor according to your preference.

If the drink is too sour, add more syrup; and if the inverse is true, you can add more juice. Add ice.

Dark & Stormy

Dark & Stormy

This cocktail was said to have come from sailors voyaging the Caribbean sea. This is a spicy drink that will warm you up during a stormy night.

Ingredients:

  • 2 ounces dark rum, we recommend Bacardi Black
  • 3 ounces ginger beer
  • ½ ounce lime juice
  • Lime wedges

Directions:

Put some fresh ice in a tall glass and pour in all the ingredients together. Stir well and serve with a lime wedge for garnish.

Raspberry Rum Mule

Raspberry Rum Mule

This pink raspberry cocktail is almost too pretty to drink. It’s the right blend of tarty and spicy, which is perfect for your dinner or cocktail party.

Ingredients:

  • 2 ounces gold rum, we recommend the Bacardi Gold
  • ½ ounce lime juice
  • Simple syrup to taste
  • 5 to 10 fresh raspberries
  • Ginger beer
  • A sprig of rosemary

Directions:

Shake all of the ingredients together in a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Make sure that you use those arm muscles well, so all the flavors have a chance to marry together.

Pour in a copper cup and add in ginger beer. Finish with a sprig of rosemary.

Mojito

Mojito

The classic mojito is a staple in every bar. It’s an easy mint drink that you can easily whip up if you find yourself entertaining unexpected guests.

Ingredients:

  • 1 ½ ounces superior white rum, we recommend the Bacardi Superior
  • 10 fresh mint leaves
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • ½ cup club soda
  • Lime wedges
  • Ice cubes

Directions:

Put the mint leaves and a lime wedge inside a cocktail shaker and use a muddler to release all the flavors and essential oils.

Add white rum, sugar, and ice and shake well. Pour into a tall glass and top up with club soda. Adjust the sweetness according to your preference.

Key Takeaways

The Bacardi brand revolutionized the world rum-making process with its four innovations: proprietary yeast, charcoal filtration, blending different strength distillates, and oak cask aging. The process took ten years to perfect and is the reason behind the signature aroma and taste the bottles are famous for.

The Bacardi family has run this rum company from the 19th century, and up to today, these rums remain one of the best yet inexpensive spirits in the market. As for the prices, they vary, depending on variety and size.
