The Bard Distillery is set to release bottles of Muhlenberg Bourbon on Saturday. The new Muhlenberg Bourbon has already won gold from the John Barleycorn Awards – and it hasn’t even hit the liquor stores yet! The judges remarked that the bottle was flavorful, firm, and impressive.
This will be the first made-from-scratch bourbon whiskey from The Bard Distillery. Cinder & Smoke and Muhlenberg Silver Muhl Whiskey were released earlier, but the said whiskeys were distilled at other distilleries.
“It’s the first bourbon that we’ve mashed, distilled, aged and bottled on site,” said Thomas Bard, co-founder and The Bard’s lead distiller. “We’ve been dreaming of this day since 2006, the year we first started talking about building a distillery and releasing a bourbon that we created from scratch. It’s been a long road, but we’re thrilled with the results and excited about the future of our brand.”
Thomas Bard says he’s a fourth-great grandson of the legendary William Bard, one of the two brothers who founded Bardstown. Bardstown touts itself as “The Bourbon Capital of the World.”
“Muhlenberg spirits use red winter wheat as the secondary grain,” Bard said. “Combined with a low entry proof and a very specific barreling program, this young bourbon has developed a color and flavor profile beyond its years.”
The individually numbered bourbon bottles will be sold in small batches Saturday from 10 AM to 6 PM. The average price for this 124-proof bourbon is $37.50. Purchases are limited to 6 (six) bottles per customer per day.
Only visitors can get the chance to buy the bourbon on Saturday and Sunday, while the remaining bottles will be available to the public the following week.
According to Bard, the initial release will include 1,500 bottles. All of the spirits will be released for purchase and shipping from The Bard’s website in the coming weeks and will be available in 41 US states.
