Bardstown Bourbon Company disclosed on Thursday that it is purchasing Owensboro’s Green River Spirits, including the renowned Green River Distilling Co, the 10th oldest distillery in the state.

According to Bardstown’s announcement, the acquisition is set to close in July. The sale also includes a production facility in Charleston, South Carolina. The cost was not publicized.

“The transaction will bring together two leading Kentucky bourbon producers into a strong, independent spirits company with a commitment to Kentucky whiskey,” the announcement stated.

“Bringing together the historic legacy of Green River and the modern bourbon experience at Bardstown Bourbon Company provides an enticing and distinguished selection of Kentucky whiskey for bourbon drinkers and visitors.”

Bardstown Bourbon Company, which provides contract distilling, is among the top distilled spirit manufacturers in the country. It distills more than seven million proof gallons every year. The company also releases under its own labels, including Collaboration. [1]

Founded by Peter Loftin in 2014, Bardstown Bourbon Company offers custom distilling for brands that seek tailored solutions in the American whiskey market. The company’s branded whiskies are currently available in 20 markets across the country.

“We’re excited to forge this new partnership, which brings together two world-class teams and expands the breadth of our portfolio and the number of customers served,” said Mark Erwin, CEO of Bardstown Bourbon Company.

“Bardstown Bourbon Company was founded to honor the traditions and history of Kentucky bourbon while taking a wholly modern approach. The addition of one of the oldest distilleries in Kentucky allows us to offer a comprehensive assortment that showcases the state’s flagship industry.”

Green River Distilling Co was founded by John W. McCulloch in 1885 but was burned to the ground in 1918. In 2016, the Green River team restored the property and began producing as the O.Z. Tyler Distillery.

After a rebranding effort, O.Z. Tyler was replaced by Green River Distilling Co, with the company launching its flagship spirit Green River Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey. The company also produces rum, flavored whiskey, rye, vodka, and gin for other brands.
