Nose

The initial impression is inviting and layered.  French oak influence might introduce subtle hints of baking spice, like cinnamon or nutmeg, alongside a touch of vanilla sweetness.  Look for notes of honey, not overly sweet but with a warm, golden character.  As the whisky opens up, hints of orchard fruits like roasted peach or apricot might emerge, adding a touch of juicy sweetness.

Palate

The first sip reveals a smooth and medium-bodied texture.  The Highland malt base comes through with a gentle spiciness, perhaps reminiscent of ginger or white pepper.  This is balanced by the sweetness of honey and toffee from the French oak casks.  The star of the show, however, is the interplay between fruit and smoke.  Musky tropical fruits, potentially mango or pineapple, contributed by the Glen Elgin malt, create an unexpected yet delightful contrast.  A subtle wisp of smoke, characteristic of Laphroaig malt, lingers in the background, adding depth and complexity without overwhelming the other flavors.
