Exclave Rye is a rye whiskey bottled in New Orleans, Louisiana. It's a tribute to the often-overlooked contributions of Black Americans in the distilling industry. This rye whiskey uses a unique mash bill of 51% rye and 49% corn, aged for at least 3 years in new American white oak barrels.

Description

Exclave Rye stands out for its unique mash bill. While most rye whiskeys use a higher percentage of rye grain (up to 90%), Exclave uses a 51% rye and 49% corn blend. This gives it a complex flavor profile that bridges the gap between spicy rye and sweeter bourbons.

Taste Notes:

  • Nose: The aroma initially offers inviting scents of vanilla and honey, followed by a subtle spiciness that hints at the rye grain.
  • Palate: The first sip brings a wave of sweetness, characterized by vanilla, honey, and even hints of caramel. This sweetness is balanced by the rye spice, which comes through as a pleasant peppery tingle on the tongue. The new charred oak barrel influence adds subtle notes of oak, baking spices, and a touch of mint, creating a complex and evolving flavor profile.
  • Finish: It is long and lingering. The sweetness recedes slightly, allowing the rye spice and oaky notes to take center stage.
