Wyoming Whiskey just announced the release of Powder River straight bourbon whiskey as an extension of the annual Wyoming-only product line releases.

Bottled at 50.5% ABV, Powder River is made from 68% corn, 20% wheat, and 12% malted barley. Like other Wyoming Whiskey products [1], the grains are homegrown in Wyoming and are certified non-GMO. The water used is sourced from a local limestone aquifer that hasn’t seen daylight for more than 6,000 years.

“Our Wyoming-only releases are my favorite bourbons in our portfolio,” says co-founder David DeFazio. “It’s no coincidence that Powder River’s flavor profile falls right in my wheelhouse.”

Powder River whiskey is named after the Powder River, a tributary of the Yellowstone River, around 375 miles long in northeastern Wyoming and southeastern Montana.

Folks say a cowboy coined the popular phrase “Powder River, Let ‘er buck” which the Wyoming troops used in the Spanish American War. It’s also a phrase heard at several Wyoming events like football games and fairs, making it uniquely Wyoming, much like Wyoming whiskey.

This Wyoming whiskey is aged for six years and crafted from nineteen barrels of the finest bourbon with complex savory, spice, and sweet notes. On the nose, you’ll discover aromas of candied orange peel, brown sugar, plum, and floral. To the palate, you’ll enjoy the taste of rich molasses, ginger snap, mandarin, marshmallow, and yogurt-covered raisins. The finish is smooth with notes of lengthy ginger, tea leaves, and black pepper with bursts of citrus.

It will come out a few weeks after the national release of Wyoming Whiskey National Parks No. 2 to pay homage to Yellowstone National Park’s 150th year.

Powder River straight bourbon whiskey will hit the shelves on June 24th, with only 360 cases available statewide. The product is expected to sell out quickly at an SRP of $70.
