Don Julio 70 Cristalino Tequila

Updated August 2026

Don Julio 70 is a cristalino — an aged tequila charcoal-filtered until it looks like a blanco — at 40% ABV / 80 proof, NOM 1449, Jalisco. The brief says 15 months in oak before the filter. Clear does not mean unaged. It is not 1942 and not extra añejo. Hub: Don Julio.

What the bottle actually is

Cristalino is a marketing class, not a CRT category of its own. The liquid started as aged tequila; the color was stripped. Fifteen months is the house line — añejo territory, then filtered. See cristalino explainer and 70 vs 1942.

Drink count matches the 40% core line. The clear bottle will fool a guest into thinking it is blanco. It is not.

Lab notes

Nose: toasted oak and caramel, which is the giveaway that this was aged. Palate: apricot and orange over honeyed agave. Finish: smooth, honey, less tannin than an unfiltered 18-month añejo because the charcoal took some of the color-linked weight with it. Rewritten from short house bullets. “Smoothness of a blanco, complexity of an añejo” is ad copy; the accurate sentence is filtered añejo at 40%.
