In New York, beer at a grocery store, deli, or convenience store is generally sold whenever that store is open. The 2023 law signed by Governor Hochul (S.5731) repealed ABC Law § 105-a — the old Sunday 3:00 a.m.–8:00 a.m. off-premise beer blackout. Pages that still print that Sunday-morning ban are stale. Wine and liquor are package-store hours, not grocery hours. Counties can still close earlier.
A 24-hour bodega in New York County can sell beer at 5:00 a.m. Sunday. A county that still posts an off-premise beer blackout on the SLA chart cannot. Check the county, not a national chain FAQ.

Sunday morning, 2023 — still the law in 2026
Before 2023, ABC § 105-a blocked off-premise beer between 3:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. on Sunday. That section was repealed. Grocery beer is not on the liquor-store Sunday 10-to-10 clock. Liquor stores did not become 24-hour; they only opened two hours earlier on Sunday (10:00 a.m. instead of noon), still closing at 10:00 p.m. If you need wine at 7:00 a.m. Sunday, the grocery beer cooler will not help you. Age 21. The clerk can refuse. Delivery is still a retail sale. SLA’s New York County page says Christmas follows “normal hours” for grocery beer, package stores, and on-premise — confirm the county before you plan a holiday run. There is no Texas-style statewide package-store Christmas close.
