Lagavulin 8 is an Islay single malt Scotch at 48% ABV / 96 proof, aged eight years, from the Lagavulin distillery on Islay’s south coast. It is not the 16-year flagship and not the Distillers Edition. The catalog country field said United Kingdom; the whisky is Scotch from Scotland. Hub: Lagavulin.

What the bottle actually is
Eight years is a stated age, so the youngest drop in the bottle is at least eight. 48% is above the 40% Scotch floor and above the 43% you see on many standard-age statements. A 1.5-ounce pour is 1.20 standard drinks. The 2016 200th-anniversary release made the 8 widely known; it has since sat in the core-ish range. We will not invent a 2026 “limited” claim — the 2024 catalog still used “limited edition” language that may be stale.

Lab notes
Nose: intense peat smoke and a rich sweetness — iodine-and-campfire territory with a sugary back. Palate: sherry, fruit, and more smoke. Finish: long and spicy. Rewritten from three short house lines. “Charred, minty dark chocolate” in the long description is the house’s own extra phrase; we will allow mint-dark-chocolate as a possible mid-palate, not a guarantee on every sip.
