Last Updated on April 3, 2023 by Lydia Martin
“When life gives you lemons, grab salt & tequila!”
Giving yourself a relaxing treat would sometimes require a shot glass in your hand and a bottle of 1800 on the other. A brand with so many variants is guaranteed to deliver complex flavors to whoever takes a sip.
Let’s find out how it acquired such taste and see if the cost fits it as well.
Tequila 1800: A Brief History
In 1975, Jose Cuervo decided to introduce this premium tequila to the public. The 1800 tequila name is from the year tequila was successfully aged in French oak barrels. Like Jose Cuervo,1800 tequila is made from the best blue agave. It has a wide array of tequila variants at very reasonable prices.
You wouldn’t miss the trapezoid-looking bottles of 1800 tequila that keep the great-tasting drinks. Coming from the same family, this is the type of tequila where you can really savor the fruit flavors but still feel the subtle texture of oak, blended to perfection.

How It’s Made
An authentic 1800 tequila is made in the soils of Mexico, where the perfect blue agave plant is grown. Its juices (1) may differ in sweetness, but that will only matter a very small amount. Compared to other wines, manufacturing tequila bottles requires much labor as extracting the fruits of agave plants remains to be done manually. It still has to go through processes before the right quantity can be stored inside a bottle.
Popular 1800 Varieties
This is actually a complimentary of flavors as you can taste the sweetness of coconut, the somehow-peppery taste of agave, and notes of pineapple in this coconut tequila bottle. This was initially made for coconut margaritas, but you can also drink this just with ice. If your preference leans more on the fruitier taste, it won’t lessen the tastiness if you pour in some pineapple juice.
A bottle of tequila silver is the entry-level of 1800 with prices that are very affordable. It is double distilled and stored in French oak barrels. Silver bottles have a distinct taste wherein a mixture of flavors are competing. You can taste the French oak smoke, sweet cedar, and the pineapple flavor of agave. Silver tequila is also great for margarita drinks and you can find recipe links on their website.
1800 Añejo is the first on the list of tequilas that passed through the aging process. Unlike Whisky or brandy, tequila does not have to go through a long fermentation period. The longer you store an agave spirit, the more wood characteristics will be taken on and lose the agave taste. It is still possible to age tequila longer than three years, but it requires constant attention and skills to have a good finish.
Reposado or rested, this formula has been aged for two months at least to a year. It has a mixture of figs, cinnamon, vanilla, cilantro, and grassy agave’s full taste. It may leave a dry aftertaste similar to salt and can be somehow scratchy to the throat, but this is the perfect match for a Tequila Sunrise mix. The 40% alcohol content in this 1800 tequila is just enough to calm the nerves.
Margaritas With 1800 Tequila Flavors
This product is for people who love tequila cocktails but do not have the skill or time to create one for themselves. This is a ready-to-pour drink that is slightly alcoholic, having 9.95% ABV on variants you can choose from. You can pick from Watermelon, Pineapple, Raspberry, Peach, Jalapeño Lime, and of course, the Original flavors. This line of flavored 1800 tequila is much better than beer.

Some Well-Known Brand Ambassadors
For 1800 tequila, there are quite a few big names who became their product ambassadors. In 2013, Ray Liotta was the face of 1800 tequila.
In 2011, Michael Imperioli played the role, and in 2010, rappers Rick Ross and his crew and Triple C’s were endorsing 1800 Silver tequila. There was also a sponsorship deal with the New York Knicks in 2010 in exchange for some publicity.
1800 Añejo vs. Other Añejo Brands
Don Julio Añejo
The brand name Don Julio is very particular in flavor. Fact is, he revolutionized agave farming so that all of Mexico can produce top-quality agave.
Quality fruits translate to high prices on their product, and that is where his tequila price is coming from. Don Julio Añejo ranges from $52.99-$67.00 for every 750 ml compared to tequila 1800 Añejo $35.99-$39.99 for every 750 ml.
Patron Añejo comes from the same family as Don Julio. Both spirits taste like raisins, vanilla, and oak wood, but the 1800 brand has the taste of pepper in every sip.
The smoothness of the liquor as it goes down the throat and caramelized finish is not a hit on everyone’s palate, though. With a price range of $47.99-$77.85 for every 750 ml, Patron can really be an acquired taste.
The taste of the two is not far from each other as both have a mixture of fruits, spices, and confectioneries as their ingredients.
With Casamigos Añejo, you can catch the savor of citrus, mango, toffee penny, papaya, sweet vanilla, dark chocolate, and a little bit of oak in every sip.
However, the 1800 tequila is confident with its smoky finish that can topple the opponent over. Price is at $50.99-$69.99 every 750 ml.

How To Drink & Enjoy It
Drinking 1800 tequila can be done in so many ways, depending on how you want it. Taking it neat is a great way to drink it, whether this is 1800 Silver tequila or 1800 reposado.
You can neutralize it with soda as it awakens the flavors and aroma which is even done by testers. But the best thing you can do with an 1800 reposado is to mix it in a cocktail.

Our Final Thoughts
It is not surprising that we see five stars on almost every review regarding the 1800 tequila. Initially, this was created to be a premium tequila. The category is not premium, but the taste and quality are above it for sure.
The name was given justice as the spirit of agave is truly a flavor of Mexico. The 1800 tequila is a brand that can be placed beside the name Cuervo, Patron, and all other prestigious tequila brands, as this is truly a representation of what should be inside a bottle of tequila. Ray Liotta did make a great choice.
