You can mix vodka and tequila. The mix is not a legal type. US vodka is a US type.142 at 40% or more. Tequila is NOM-006 / at 35–55%. Typical US bottles of both print 40%. A 1.5-ounce pour at 40% is one NIAAA drink. Two 1.5-ounce pours are two drinks, whatever the glass is called. Mezcal is NOM-070, a different agave spirit.
