Don Julio Añejo Tequila

Updated June 2026

Don Julio Añejo is the house’s standard aged tequila — añejo, not extra añejo — at 40% ABV / 80 proof, from NOM 1449 in Jalisco. The brief says 18 months in oak. That is above the one-year añejo floor and below the three-year extra-añejo floor. Do not confuse it with 1942. Hub: Don Julio.

What the bottle actually is

Eighteen months is a house number, not a CRT vintage. Extra añejo starts at three years. 1942 is a separate añejo with a longer house age line. 70 Cristalino is a filtered aged tequila that looks like a blanco. Drink count at 40% is the same as the rest of the core US line. See 1942 bottle page and the older magazine note at Don Julio 1942.

Lab notes

Nose: lime, grapefruit, and mandarin over caramel — citrus still winning, oak in second place. Palate is fuller than reposado: cooked agave, wild-honey sweetness, butterscotch that tastes like oak extract more than candy. Finish is bright and lightly spiced, honey on the tail. Rewritten from the house notes; we did not paste the “perfect celebration” sentence.

Snifter or a single cube. Related: reposado · 70 Cristalino · vs Patrón.
