Everything About Davidoff Cognac

Davidoff Cognac

As one of the well-known Cigar Cognac Companies, Davidoff introduces their cognacs as a “culinary experience today and a delicious memory tomorrow.” As spirit experts, we noticed that Davidoff cognacs really go well with cigars (well, it makes sense as it came from a cigar company).

Three best-selling cognacs from Davidoff include the Premium XO, the VSOP, and the VS. Davidoff XO combines elegance, modernity, and confidence. At the same time, the VSOP and the VS variants result from a completely overhauled Davidoff.

Must-Know Facts

Must-Know Facts

Production & Maturation Process

The cognacs from Davidoff are aged at least 3 to 17 years using a selection of Eaux-de-vie. The Davidoff VS is created by selecting over 15 Eaux-de-vie and aged for at least three years in copper pot stills. Then the VSOP spirit is a blend of over 20 Eaux-de-vie aged for seven years.

Also, the Davidoff XO is a blend of over 25 Eaux-de-vie aged at least 17 years. In short, every Davidoff spirit has a different maturation process using French wine barrels, resulting in varying but savory flavor profiles.

Raw Materials

White grapes

Davidoff cognac is made of white grapes grown in the Cognac growing region in France. This acidic, sour beverage is naturally obtained from three types of white grapes: Ugni Blanc, Colombard, and Folle Blanche.

Distillery & Ownership

Born in 1906 in Kyiv, Ukraine, Zino Davidoff established Davidoff, a Swiss luxury tobacco brand name. The Hine Distillery currently makes the spirit for Davidoff after the collaboration with Hennessy ended in 2011.

In short, the owner of Davidoff is different from the distillery making the cognacs (which is kind of usual in the liquor world).

Compared to Other Cognacs

Compared to Other Cognacs

Hennessy

Davidoff collaborated with Hennesy in producing cognacs before, so it is in close comparison with Hennessy cognacs in the making process.

However, Davidoff Cognacs are more well-suited with cigars (just like its purpose from the start) than Hennessy cognacs.

Davidoff is more budget-friendly, with $42 as the starting price point, compared to Hennessy, with the lowest price of around $60.

Nyak

Nyak

Nyak and Davidoff cognacs are created from a meticulously selected Eaux-de-vie and aged for at least three years in French oak tanks.

But despite the almost-the-same production process, they give different results, particularly on the nose. Nyak boasts a bouquet of softly rounded wood aromas, while Davidoff boasts rich honey and vanilla aromas.

Nyak and Davidoff have a much closer price range, from $30 to $40. In short, both cognac brands are affordable.

Hine

As mentioned earlier, Hine is currently making the cognacs for Davidoff. That’s why we can conclude that Davidoff and Hine cognacs have a few similar attributes in terms of flavor, nose, and finish.

However, Hine is more like a vintage or antique style of cognac. In comparison, Davidoff is more of a modern and classy spirit.

Davidoff is way cheaper than Hine. Davidoff’s priciest cognac only ranges from $100 or a bit more, while Hine cognacs range from $100 to $10,000 or more.
