Puerto Rican Rum: What the Label Has to Mean

Updated April 2026.

There is no official best rum in Puerto Rico. US rum is sugarcane spirit bottled at 40% or more. “Puerto Rico” on a label is origin talk, not a US class. Virginia ABC lists Bacardi Superior at 40.0% / 80. Other island SKUs: neck. A 1.5-ounce pour at 40% is one NIAAA drink. No invented ranking or MSRP.
