How to Drink Añejo Tequila

Updated August 2026. Drink añejo neat, in a small glass, at room temperature. That is the usual bar pour, not a legal rule. Añejo tequila has to rest at least one year in oak (or holm oak) barrels no bigger than 600 liters. Extra añejo is at least three years. Most US bottles are 40% alcohol. Don Julio 1942 is añejo, not extra añejo.
