How Many Bud Lights to Get Drunk?

Updated June 2026.

A 12-ounce (355 mL) Bud Light is 4.2% ABV on Anheuser-Busch’s US tile — 0.84 US standard drinks, not a free beer. NIAAA’s “some light beers are 4.2%” line is this can. Four standard drinks in about two hours is the female binge pattern; five is the male pattern. That is about five or six 12-ounce Bud Lights. Conversion, not a target. Do not drive.

Legal limit is 0.08% BAC in most US states (0.05% in Utah). Light lager does not get a roadside discount. Platinum, NEXT, seltzer, and Chelada are other SKUs.

Bud Light vs a real standard drink

Standard drinks = (fl oz × ABV) ÷ 0.6. NIAAA (December 2025): 14 g / 0.6 fl oz. A 12 oz 5% beer is 1.00 drink. 12 × 0.042 ÷ 0.6 = 0.84.

Serve mL fl oz ABV Std drinks Calories
12 oz Bud Light 355 12 4.2% 0.84 110 (brand 12 oz)
16 oz pint, same beer 473 16 4.2% 1.12 scales with ounces
24 oz can 710 24 4.2% 1.68 scales with ounces
25 oz silo, if 4.2% 739 25 4.2% 1.75 scales with ounces

110 calories is the official 12-ounce figure. Do not treat a pint as 110. For the neighboring value lager, see Busch Light (4.1%). Generic beer math: how many beers to get drunk. Shot equivalent: beers equal a shot of vodka.

Five cans is not a personality

0.84 × 5 = 4.2 drinks; 0.84 × 6 = 5.0 drinks. Those line up with NIAAA’s 4- and 5-drink binge patterns — in about two hours, for population averages. A 120-pound person and a 220-pound person do not match. Food slows absorption. There is no “drunk at N cans.” Competitors who print 3-for-her / 5-for-him in one hour are inventing a target. This page will not.

A 30-pack of 12-ounce Bud Light is about 25.2 standard drinks. That is the cardboard, not a weekend. Mixing in shots and forgetting them is how “just Bud Light” becomes something else — see how many shots.

Platinum, seltzer, NEXT, and the word “Bud Light”

Bud Light Platinum is a stronger beer. Confirm the can; we are not reprinting unofficial 6% / calorie tiles this pass. Bud Light Seltzer is not beer. Bud Light NEXT is a different calorie/carb SKU. Cheladas can move calories without changing the core lager. The red-white-and-blue 12-ounce can on the 2026 brand page is 4.2% ABV and 110 calories, with 6.6 g carbs.

Draft from a keg of the same beer is still 4.2% — the glass size changes the drink count, not the ABV. A 16-ounce pour is 1.12 drinks. For another Mexican lager that is not 5%, see Modelo Especial (4.4%) or Corona Extra (4.6%).
