In the US, Smirnoff Ice Original is a flavored malt beverage in an 11.2-ounce bottle. Official smirnoff.com US tiles this fetch print that 11.2-ounce bottle and a 16-ounce Original can; they do not print ABV. US retailer listings (Walmart, Meijer, Total Wine) print 4.5% ABV — about 0.84 standard drinks per bottle, 1.20 per 16-ounce can. It is not vodka. It is not a 12-ounce beer. This is math, not a recipe.
Ethanol is still ethanol. Four 12-ounce 5% drinks in two hours is NIAAA’s binge pattern for women; five is the male pattern. Ice is slightly weaker per bottle than that 5% example, and the bottle is smaller, so the count is not identical. Body weight, food, and time still decide how you feel. UK and Ireland Smirnoff FAQ pages print 4% ABV for Ice Original — that is not the US listing. Read the package in your hand.
Smirnoff Ice conversions
Standard drinks = (fl oz × ABV) ÷ 0.6. One US drink = 14 g / 0.6 fl oz alcohol (NIAAA, December 2025). Confirm the can or bottle; flavors and countries differ.

Older copy said Ice was “approximately five percent” with flavored bottles “up to seven percent.” Flight Wine Bar still mixes 5% and 4.5% in the same “drunk at 3–5” guide and then runs a weight-to-bottle BAC card. Sweet does not mean weak
People overshoot Ice because it tastes like lemon-lime soda. Carbonation can speed absorption for some drinkers. The official 16-ounce can is the current tallboy trap: it looks like one unit and counts as 1.20 drinks at 4.5%. A leftover 23.5-ounce can, if you still find one, is almost two. Stack that with beer and you are not “just drinking Ice.”
Body weight, sex, food, and medications change BAC. Legal driving is 0.08% in most US states (0.05% in Utah). Two bottles is not a safe-to-drive certificate. Women, on average, reach a higher BAC at the same dose. That is physiology, not a punchline about a “girl’s drink” — the old page used that phrase; this one will not.
If you are going to drink Ice anyway
- Count 0.84 drinks per 11.2 oz Original bottle, not “one beer.”
- Treat the official 16 oz can as 1.20 drinks if it is still 4.5% — read the lip.
- Eat. Water. Time.
- Do not mix Ice with vodka and count only the bottles.
- Stop well before a binge-drinking pattern if the goal is not to be sick.

Ice vs vodka vs seltzer
Smirnoff No. 21 is 40% vodka. Ice is a 4.5% flavored malt beverage in the US listings we fetched. A vodka soda you build with 1.5 ounces of No. 21 is one full standard drink. An 11.2-ounce Ice is 0.84. They are not interchangeable “Smirnoffs.” Hard seltzer at 5% in 12 ounces is 1.00 — see White Claw — closer to beer than to Ice’s smaller, slightly weaker bottle.

What you will not get from this page
A per-weight chart that says “at 100 pounds, two Ices.” Those charts treat every bottle as a 12-ounce 5% beer and then pretend they measured you. Food, time, and the 16-ounce can break them. Count standard drinks. Take a ride you did not drive.
Zero Sugar, Triple Black, and other SKUs
Official US Ice tiles this fetch also list Zero Sugar, Icy Island, fruit flavors, and variety packs. ABV was not printed on those tiles. Triple Black and Smash-class 8% cans, where sold, are different math — an 8% 12-ounce can is 1.6 drinks. A sugar-free Ice is a calorie line, not a lighter ethanol line, unless the ABV dropped too.
