what is kirkland tequila silver comparable to

Kirkland Tequila Silver is the giant retail company Costco’s own tequila brand. It is made from pure agave sourced from the Central Jalisco region, double-distilled and double-filtered.

But what is Kirkland Tequila Silver comparable to? In today’s article, we’ll answer that question (and more).

What’s Kirkland Tequila Silver Similar With?

Kirkland Silver Tequila

Since Costco’s Kirkland Tequila Silver is distilled in Corporate Distillery Santa Lucia, a well-known tequila distiller worldwide, we can assume that it’s comparable to other brands also produced in the same location.

Costco does not have its own distillery, so they’ve outsourced the distilling to a separate facility and bottled them with their own label. But who actually makes Kirkland tequila?

Two other distilleries used to make Costco tequilas, the La Madrileña and Fabrica de Tequilas Finos distilleries, both found in Jalisco, Mexico.

The spirit is made with 100 percent blue agave plants [1] and double-distilled and double-filtered using stainless pots with copper coils. It is finally bottled at 80 proof (or 40 percent ABV).

Kirkland Tequila Silver is floral and fruity, much like the Ed Hardy spirit. It has the signature vegetal/cut grass aroma and apple and pear flavor notes. It has a fairly thin viscosity with little to no alcoholic burn.

All in all, it’s a solid bang for your buck at just under $20 for a 1.75ml bottle, plus it’s made with no additives to boot.

3 Brands Comparable With Kirkland Tequila Silver

1. Patron Silver Tequila

Patron Silver Tequila

There have been some rumors circulating that Patron Distillery, which makes Patron Silver Tequila, also produces Kirkland Silver.

This is not true.

Patron Silver and Kirkland Silver are both smooth tequilas with little to no alcoholic burn, which is why you’ll often see them pitted against each other. Add that to the fact that Kirkland Silver is about one-third of Patron’s pricing, and you have a clear winner here.

Not that Patron Silver is a horrible bottle, of course, but some people have other priorities.

2. Ed Hardy Tequila

Ed Hardy and Kirkland Silver used to be produced at the same distillery, so you might see a few similarities between the two.

The agave plants used in both spirits are sourced from Jalisco and distilled and filtered using stainless steel pots.

Ed Hardy is smooth and aromatic, much like Kirkland, but we have to say that we like Ed Hardy just a touch more.

3. Casamigos Tequila

Casamigos Tequila is a celebrity booze brand heralded by George Clooney, Rande Gerber, and Mike Meldman.

The longtime friends were huge tequila lovers, and they partnered with a Master Distiller from Jalisco, Mexico, to perfect the recipe for their brand. It was released to the public in 2013.

We’ve heard some people compare Casamigos to Kirkland, but we honestly don’t see any similarities between the two brands.

Casamigos is pretty sweet on the palate, with notes of vanilla and banana, while Kirkland is more grassy, vegetal, and agave-forward.

Final Thoughts

They are made from 100 percent blue agave plants sourced from Jalisco, Mexico using stainless steel pots to distill the final spirit.

As a result, both tequila spirits are fairly vegetal and grassy and remain faithful to the raw ingredients used.

Both spirits also have little to no alcoholic burn, so they can be enjoyed neat just as much as they can be enjoyed in traditional shots or classic tequila cocktails.
