Best American Whiskey Under $50

Updated June 2026.

Under $50 is the shelf tag that day — not a 2023 tasting and not an MSRP we will invent. American whiskey still has to meet its TTB class and bottle at 80 proof or higher. A 1.5-ounce 80-proof pour is one NIAAA drink; 90 proof is 1.13; 100 proof is 1.25. Allocation bottles with a cheap suggested retail are often not under $50 on the street.

Related: bourbon under $50, whiskey under $50, rye under $50.

How to shop the under-$50 American bay

Check Why it matters
Sticker at or under $50 SR is not street. Allocation lies
Class on the label Bourbon / rye / Tennessee / blended — different rules
Proof 80 floor. Drink math follows the neck
Widely stocked examples Jim Beam, Evan Williams, Maker’s Mark, Wild Turkey 101, Old Overholt — distribution, not scores

A 750 mL 80-proof bottle is about 17 drinks. Four Beam pours are four drinks. NIAAA binge pattern is a health line, not a target. Pour math: whiskey drinks.
